Plate recognition for your driveway.

Know every car that comes up your drive — and let yours in automatically. It works with a normal IP camera and a home PC.

What plate recognition does for a household.

  • A log of every car that comes up the drive, with the time and a picture.
  • An alert for strangers — an email when a plate you do not know arrives, or a vehicle with no readable plate.
  • Your gate opens for your cars — known plates trigger the gate through the camera's own output, no remote needed.
  • Answers later — search the log for a plate to see every time it visited.

It runs on a normal IP camera and a home Windows PC. With VISEC, one camera is free for life, plate recognition included.

LPR · Set it up

Driveway LPR in four steps.

  1. Pick the spot

Where cars slow down — the gate or the bottom of the drive — not a wide view of the house.

  2. Mount low and close

About 1–2 m high, within 30° of the car's path, zoomed so the plate fills the frame.

  3. Fix the shutter

Set 1/500 s and turn on infrared for night. Full setup rules.

  4. Add your plates

List the household's cars; everything else can alert you.

LPR · Be a good neighbour

Privacy at home.

Point LPR cameras at your own property — your drive and your gate — rather than the public street or a neighbour's house. Rules on recording people and vehicles differ between countries and states, so check what applies where you live. Keeping the log on your own PC, rather than in someone else's cloud, keeps that data in your hands.

LPR · Questions

Driveway LPR: quick answers.

Can I use license plate recognition at home?

Yes. A standard IP camera aimed at your drive plus LPR software on a Windows PC is enough. VISEC includes it free on one camera.

Can plate recognition open my gate?

Yes, if the camera has an output that can drive the gate. VISEC's access control triggers ONVIF and Axis camera outputs for known plates.

Will it read plates at night?

Yes with infrared. Read rear plates where you can to avoid headlight glare.
